The summer holidays are fast approaching and despite the busyness of preparing for Christmas and New Year, where possible it is an opportune time to take a break. Taking a break from work can be challenging, especially when running or managing a business. Yet there is tremendous value in taking a break for you, your team and your business.
The most important reason is spending quality time with family and friends. They give us grounding and a new appreciation for what we do and why we do it. The other benefits include;
Taking a break doesn’t have to mean travelling long distances to faraway places, it can be as simple as taking a few days off just to relax at home. The pace of change around us is increasing and it can often feel overwhelming. The summer break is the perfect opportunity to relax, recharge your batteries and help you feel more engaged when you get back to work.
In 2012 the University of California carried out a study into the effects of emails on executives. The study concluded that it takes on average 5 days without email for your heart rate to function at its normal rate. Can you go five days without email? Why not give it a go between Christmas and new year . . . it is good for you!
Taking a break might be uncomfortable, but they are crucial. We are curious to hear your thoughts and comments on this as well.
Holiday Notice
Every year at this time our Business By Design team take a summer break. It is an opportunity for all of us to spend quality time with family and friends. It is also a time for us to stop and reflect on the year past and plan for the new year.
