One of the mistakes we often make is we go to extremes. We either go all business and neglect family, or we make excuses like, “Oh, I can’t run my business. I can’t grow a business. I can’t really focus on my business because I’ve got a family.” And those are just silly decisions.
Don’t be an ‘or’ person. Be a ‘both’ person.
Your family could be the reason why you can’t do stuff, or frankly, it could be the reason why you do. I think it is way healthier and smarter to make family the reason why you do this stuff.
How do you balance it?
For years now I have lived by the 9/9/9 mantra – I work 9 hours a day / 9 days a fortnight / for 9 months of a year. It may seem out of reach at the moment but you can do it and I work with all my clients to achieve the 9/9/9 goal.
The other things we do is we blend, as much as we can, blend them together. Like organizing trips away near school holidays so the kids can come with you. Travel and work away Tuesday to Wednesday and keep weekend free of work, where possible.

Life is not perfectly sliced up little box where you have —family here, then work there. It is all about how we manage our time and the commitments in our lives. I think the separation of family and business is crazy. So, blend them together and then take steps to make the 9/9/9 goal a reality.
