Grew from 1 property to 5 properties and a land base of 2630 hectares and a carrying capacity of 18,000 to 19,000 DSE. In 2005 to 2007 our client started working with us through a variety of business development courses. In 2008 Sean Martyn started one-on-one mentoring and coaching the business owners which led to dramatic changes within their farming business: on the farm itself, its management style, its ecological health, its profitability, and relationships between members of the family. The business identified a number of ‘stop doings’ and made some tough decisions including no longer drought feeding and to focus on managing their business, not managing their farm.
The shift by the owners to ‘working on the business’ (WOTB) rather than in the business has seen outstanding results. The accompanying graphic shows the results over 4 years – we assisted our client to double their assets, quadruple profits and cash flow, and the return on assets managed went from 0% – 9%.
